Hello again. Just putting out the fact that I'm still attempting to update this blog whenever I can. Or whenever I feel like attempting to be among the lone voices screaming into this void.

Have home wi-fi now. Am also currently working on Alfay epic. I'm six chapters in and posting at ff.net, Ficwad, and AFF. Kind regretting cross-posting at Ficwad, since it seems to be a site populated mostly by real person fics. Ick. And no traffic in the SO:3 section which has maaaayyyybeee 20 fics on it.

And yes, I've given into writing erotica into the fic. The fact is, I love erotica, reading and writing it. It's a part of my writing and you know...I think I'm ok with that.

It's called Angels to Some. Maybe I'll post a link to it when it's done.
brutal_priestess: (Over Now-Albel)
First SO:3 fic in years. Kind of reacquainting myself with the characters.

Also, I have an Alfay comm now, where I will also be posting old re-edited fics.

Merry X-mas. Here's some fic. It wouldn't leave me alone.

Young Reno-centric. Pre-Turks.

I can't believe I managed to make a chapter happen this week.

Chapter summary: Rufus and Reno arrive at Wutai, get attacked by some wildlife, and unnerved by the ambassadors that greet them in the village.

Also, UST finally resolved by a little.

Author's notes: I'm not trying to portray Reno as incompetent. You'll get what I mean when you read it. Keep in mind he's still rather young and new to the whole being-a-Turk thing. Also, this is his first major mission without Rude.

Well, with this chapter I make it abundantly clear that this fic will feature a budding relationship between Rufus and Reno.  There's flirting mixed in with shop talk and bonding on a personal level. Some people will consider this business as usual (for me), but there's a level of restraint I'm practicing.

Some joint fanon with Sterling happening in this chapter so I'm giving credit where credit's due, though honestly our point of views  became so entwined that often we forgot who came up with what idea.

Also, Reno has some inner conflict regarding his crush on Rufus, which I think is fair.  It should be noted that I don't find anything wrong with conflict in Renoru, I just find most fics do it poorly. They always miss the obvious and go with the stereotypical, "but he's an asshole!" when I think the bigger conflict would be "oh shit. How much trouble am I gonna get into dating the president's son?"

Chapter summary: Reno shows up early in Junon to talk about the mission. Later that day they bond while taking a pit stop in Rocket Town and Reno stresses a bit over his burgeoning feelings for Rufus.

a/n: This...was a hard chapter mostly due to the second part of it. It took me forever to get the scene right. It was severely ailing of the shipping flu and so I spun it in another manner. Nailed it? Sure why not. It's really just one of those moving the story along chapters. Next one is going to be very interesting with a side of sexy. I promise.

Oh and I wrote up a basic outline of the story at work yesterday and started chapter summaries as notes for myself. It's going to be a long one, about as long as TiP (Trapped in Paradise).

Chapter summary: Reno gets a surprising call from Rufus Shinra. Later that night, Rufus muses on the state of the company after finding out about some upcoming projects his father is putting forth.

Author's notes: Ok, here she is. Chapter one. I've gone over it pretty compulsively at this point and I'm...pretty content with it. In case you're curious, yes I'm already working on chapter two. I'd meant to wait a couple days, ruminate on it, but I'd forgotten how intense the process could be, and a scene banged through my head and refused to let me go. There's mention to my firm as a hard-on belief that Rufus has had Turk training. I've never been so overt about it as I am in this story, though. So that's my only real warning to fanon oddity. Also keep in mind that Reno is still a very new Turk in this story. I wouldn't say that he's uncertain about himself, I just don't feel quite as much blatant arrogance from him as I usually do. More like...he's still trying to overcome the stigma attached to him "pretty boy slumbrat" and all. Not that anyone thinks he's anything less than capable, but he's not quite achieved the level of respect he getting in ogc. Appearances and all.

Overall summary: Rufus is assigned to visit Wutai on a diplomacy summit along with young hotshot Turk, Reno. Will there be assassins awaiting their arrival as the rumours persist? Renoru

Chapter summary: Tseng briefs Rufus on the Turk that has been assigned to accompany him, and Reno finds out a secret about the president's son.

Overall rating: R, probably for mostly language, violence, and mature themes.

Chapter rating: R, for language and some sexual-type thoughts.

For Sterling. I kind of consider this a culmination of our many, many Renoru discussions. So what if it's three years late?

Fan fic

So I've talked about my last days in fanfiction. One last run for old time's sake. I started a Renoru fic but was side-tracked by a dull night and the reminder that...oh my, I still love Torchwood and there's still so much unexplored.

Am almost done with a continuation of my original post-Cyberwoman fic. It's a bit elegantly disjointed but whatever.

Also. Erotica. Shut up. I can't deny what I am, but I promise it won't be smutty as my past stuff. Delicate, sensuous, and sexy. That's my goal.

Dunno when I'll post it. I'm trying to keep my return to fanfiction quiet from my boyfriend. He wouldn't understand fandom.

Mind you, this return is not permenant. May be my swan song(s), may be just a periodical itch to scratch. Who knows.

So...if there's anyone out there who still cares, I'm working on one last peice of fanfiction. Will I finish it? I don't know but it's a love letter of sorts to my loyal fanbase, which I still occasionally hear from.

Wow, I can't believe it's been so long since I've updated.

Well, part of it is that I'm on full time at work now so I don't have a whole lot of time online, that and it's finally warmed up enough so that I can spend a good chunk of time on an entry. And I finally have something awesome to share. An actual experience and adventure! Holy shit!

So I'm sure I've mentioned that I've started getting into psychobilly bands fairly heavily, at least as heavily as anyone with as eclectic a music taste as I have. Shortly after starting to become fascinated with the genre, Tom told me I would really get into a band called the Koffin Kats and downloaded one of their albums the next day. I went positively mad for Vic Victor's voice, which is nice and bass-y, a throwback to the male torch singers of the '50s. Elvis brought back to life, tattooed, and pissed off. Like a lot of American psychobilly bands they have a slightly punkier aesthetic.

Anyway, so all this band does is tour and make records (5 of them so far, all of them pretty fucking damned amazing) and they just started hitting clubs Stateside after a leg of touring in Europe. I found this out through Facebook (I liked the band and now get updates...I really need to do that with Nekromantix soon, among others....) and checked out their web site to see tour dates. Lo and behold, they were playing Tampa and I vowed to make it happen, come hell or high water. I scrambled to make sure I could afford two tickets (at $10 a pop for advance, technically $15 after Ticketmaster raped me with their taxes, that was no problem. Ironically I could have saved money and paid the $12 at the door, but I hadn't been aware that the audience would end up being so small. I'd wanted to make absolutely sure I'd be able to get tickets with barely three weeks notice).

So the show was Monday night and it was beyond amazing. It was at the Orpheum, a venue I'd known was small but hadn't been prepared for the fact that it was not much more than a rather large bar with a stage. The bands hung out at the bar and sold their own merch, including the Koffin Kats, which was unlike anything I'd ever experienced. I was a little dumbstruck and deeply moved by the entire thing and consequently unable to do much more than play it cool as I bought a couple shirts and a CD from Vic himself. Sure didn't help that he's quite handsome.

There were three opening acts, mostly punk acts aside from the first band with had elements of psychobilly without an upright bass. Tom and I hit the floor in front of the stage when Koffin Kats took stage and it was incredible. The energy, the freedom, and passion that I felt for the first time in years (with my clothes on) brought  back the last missing piece of the puzzle of my once fractured soul. THIS was why I loved music and bands and I'll never forget that fact.

....I also got very, very drunk. At first I was going to just take it slow and drink beer all night. Then I asked the bartender how much a Jack and Coke was (my old preferred poison from back in the day, when I went bar hopping two to three times a week) and was pleased to hear the modest price of $6 grace by ears. All went downhill from there but men, those were some tasty drinks. Nice and strong, just like I used to get them at the Whirling Dervish. I'm telling you, if I lived a little closer to Tampa (or the highway didn't make it such a clusterfuck to get in and out of) I'd be happy to just visit the Orpheum as a nice experience at a real bar. Luckily I planned fr that possibility and had requested the day off yesterday so I could recover. My hangover wasn't wicked, seems the water I'd drunk and the late night visit to Steak and Shake on the way home made curbed it a bit so I just woke up with a slight head ache and a head stuffed with cotton. Easy to cope with but I was in absolutely no shape for work, as I'd imagined.

I have pictures and video if anyone cares, though the audio on the video clips are awful. I was standing right next to the amps, which was great for the show but bad for my camera's internal mike. I have less to show than I'd like. I think the lithium batteries I use for my camera are starting to go bad because they're not holding much of a charge so I had to turn the camera off between shots, which wasn't very helpful when something awesome was happening and I  was fumbling with my camera....

Music

I've been furthur expanding my music taste of late. Or at least, I've been hungry for new music. Internet ninja that I am, I can find just about anything online (for download) so anyone want to help me expand my horizens.

My music taste runs a pretty wide gamut, though I guess it could be accurately said I'm weak for guitar rock, electronic beats, and innovation. I'll admit though, most new music bores me to tears. Especially newer rock bands, but feel free to challenge me!

Right now, I've been really getting into rockabilly and it's cousin psychobilly. I finally gave Tiger Army a listen, a band friends have been bugging me to listen to for over a year and Nekromantix, a band I'm surprised I'd not been turned on to earlier. And of course I can't forget Reverand Horton Heat, kind of an omnipresent awareness down here. They used to play in Florida, seemed like every other month, and they still have a Halloween gig in Tampa or St. Pete every year. I've also been getting serious with my KMFDM collection and realizing that they're more than just a Goth dance club band. Actually, it's pretty quality music, at least their earliest stuff is. Funny: A lot of fans call Symbols their best album but compared to Angst and Nihil, it's rather generic. Thinking I might try to track down Xtort today.

So anyway yeah, bring it on!

Anyway,

Ah, here we go.

Hellsing OVA 1-7

There are several different links for any given episode, so don't download everything or you'll have multiple files of the same episode.  They are subbed, which isn't a bad thing. As with most anime series it really is better in its native language, just...I always found it a little disconcerting given the fact that no one should be speaking Japanese (most of Hellsing is set in England, the antagonists are German, etc....).

These are not torrents, they link to file storage sites like Megaupload.

Enjoy!

prompt: Shinra
characters: Rufus Shinra, in regards to his father.
rating: PG

summary: Rufus hopes he had an honourable death....

“Dignified End”

Rufus stared at the blank screen and was surprised by his emotions. He was outraged that the cameras had gone offline at the time of his father’s death. It wasn’t as though he needed closure, but he’d wanted to know if the old man had begged for mercy or died with dignity. A part of him truly hoped he’d recieved an honourable death. The idea that he’d died a hypocrite angered Rufus even more than the years of abuse and neglect. Instead he was content to think that his father was a man who’d faced  his death fearlessly.

READ THIS!

xcomprandomness.co.uk/ff7novels/caseofshinra/

Not only is it made of awesomeness but it's absolutely and completely canon. It was written by on of the game's original writers. Basically it fills in the blanks leading up to the events of AC, including but not limited to:

-How Rufus really escaped death.
-Ditto with Tseng.
-A much clearer definition of geostigma.
-The early construction efforts of Edge.
-What Healin(g) really was before becoming a hospital for those suffering under geostigma (although it wasn't real clear where it was although I presume around Midgar or somewhere between Midgar and Kalm).

Other Kickassery:
-Dear dumbfuck fanbrats that tried to tell me my Rufus was "too nice": ORLY? Guess what, my characterization is more canon than any sadistic!bastard!Rufus! personality rape. (Yes I'm having an immaturity moment but it's soooo good to have it validated.)

-My last post has become completely and utterly moot as I have been now proven that I was right all along! At the end of FF7, Rufus isn't 21. He's actually 26.  So now I don't have to do so much tap-dancing around "age issues" should I write any Renoru fic set circa BC.

-Might I still add that Rufus Shinra is a badass? Cos he is. <3

-HOT!TURKS!ACTION!

One thing that sucks: I may have to consider deleting "Road to Recovery" because it has now been rendered AU. I'd consider the same thing for "Strange Bedfellows" but it is award-winning and considered one of the better RenoxCloud offerings out there. We'll see.

Note: The translation is kinda meh, but there is an official version packaged in a massive AC box set of doom--->dvd.ign.com/articles/765/765583p1.html

I think I've probably been trying to write this fic for a couple years now.

summary: Reno's ambition is finally revealed.

“Blind Ambition”

Rude yanked the black canvas hood off the teen-ager’s head. The skinny, lanky young man thrashed about for only a moment as his eyesight adjusted to the interrogation room’s bright lights.

“What the fuck, yo?” The redhead snarled when he realized that he was cuffed at the wrists and ankles. “Oi, ya coulda just asked politely.”

“Shut up,” Rude growled as he smacked him upside the head, though not hard enough to knock him out.

“Do forgive my colleague,” Tseng apologized as he sat across the table from his agitated prisoner. “He exemplifies his namesake quite well at times.”

“What? Dickless asshole? Too-much-of-a-pussy-to-hit-a-guy-from-the-front?”

Rude went deadly still and Tseng could tell that if he didn’t defuse the situation pretty quick,  Mr. Wilder would end up unconscious again. “Rude has his reasons for not wanting to face you, but it has nothing to do with cowardice.”

“Whatever. Can we just get on with it? What do ya want to know?”

Tseng raised an eyebrow at him, “What makes you think I need to do anything more than verify that we have the right man?”

Wilder snorted, “Yeah, or the good enough man. Don’t play me like I don’t know how the company works. I grew up in the slums.”

“I know,” Tseng replied softly, “I know quite a bit about you, Mr. Wilder. The question is: Even if you are willing to talk, do you have any useful information for us?”

“Call me Reno, will ya?”

Tseng made a face, “Is that some kind of street name?”

“Nah, I went by stupid shit like Red or Cerulean ‘cause of my eyes. Reno’s my Turk name. Pretty cool, huh? Took me years to think that up--”

Tseng cut him off harshly, “Is this some kind of joke to you, Mr. Wilder?”

“Do ya honestly think I went to all that trouble gettin’ in with Wall Market’s organized crime ‘cause I wanted that life?” Wilder asked with a note of exasperation in his voice. “Listen, I know all the players and how their business goes down. With my help you could seriously clean house on Wall Market.”

Tseng was so stunned that it was Rude who finally spoke. “Wait...You’ll do all that in exchange for....”

“I want to be a Turk,” Wilder stated clear as day. “I couldn’t afford the tuition at the academy so I figured out another way.”

Tseng finally regained his composure and glared at the young man condescendingly. “If you think the company would hire an uneducated slum brat just because he could offer up a few names, you’re sadly mistaken.”

“Fine, that’s cool. You got no reason to trust me,” Wilder shrugged, “Let me be your man on the inside. I’ll bring you information, wear a wire, whatever you want.”

Tseng scrutinized him closely. He wasn’t lying; he would risk death for this ambition. Of course it occurred to him that just this sort of dedication was one of the most important trains for  a Turk to have. Still...Wilder was right. He had no reason to trust him.

“Work with us for three months as an informant. If you prove to be as useful as you claim to be, I will talk to my boss about sending you to Junon for proper training to be a Turk.”

“Good deal,” Reno nodded. “Now, couldja get these cuffs off me? They’re startin’ to chafe.”

“Of course,” Tseng replied as he reached into his jacket pocket. He nodded slightly to Rude, who made a quick hand gesture and muttered an incantation under his breath.

Wilder was put into a magic induced slumber within a few minutes and Tseng worked quickly. He injected Wilder with a mild sedative. A sleeping spell was really only good to get someone unconscious without hurting them. It rarely lasted more than a half-hour and Tseng to didn’t want him waking up before they returned him to the slums. He shoved a PHS into the pocket of Wilder’s pants before turning to Rude.

“Drop him off at the chapel,” Tseng ordered.

Rude nodded, picked the redhead up, and slung him over one shoulder. After he was gone, Tseng removed the tape from the room’s surveillance camera and headed for the nearest elevator.

“Last Call”

They came in at two AM. Tifa tolerated them because they tipped well and Rude was sweet to her. Tonight Rufus had come along. Strangely, he was dressed in the Turk uniform rather than his pristine white suit. He and Reno sat at a corner table. They talked softly, leaneing into each other with devouring gazes, and it was clear that they were together even if they weren’t broadcasting it. Tifa wished it could be that way between Cloud and herself.

“Hm?” Rude had asked her a question.

“Doin’ anything this weekend?”

Tifa smiled faintly, “Not really. Why?”
