Title: Leatherbound Memories (part 1)
pairing: eventual Janto
rating: PG-13 for now
spoilers: All of season 1 with references to Fragments
disclaimer: Characters not mine and were created by RTD. Copyrights belong to the BBC.
summary: A take on Ianto's diary throughout season 1 with a bit of pre-series meandering.
a/n: I've most focused on making this read realistically as a personal journal, not a first-person re-telling of various episodes. I know I promised an "entry" a day. I now would like to reiterate that promise as soon as I can manage. Be sure, I'm not the sort to just abandon stories without warning. At least ones I've begun posting.
~II~
It's hidden beneath the Millennium Centre. The building itself is exactly what the travel pamphlets say it is, but I know something strange is going on. I've seen the captain on the Plass, appearing seemingly out of thin air, or leaving from a back entrance. Once, feeling bold, I investigated a back door and found it labelled as a tourist centre. Very clever, I must say, but not clever enough to hide the mysterious comings and goings. It certainly doesn't hide the giant black SUT emblazoned with the name of 'Torchwood' on its side.
From what I've observed there are four members of Torchwood 3, including Captain Harkness. The three others consist of a petite Asian woman, a slender somewhat severe-looking man, and another woman with long curly hair. She'd be very pretty if she didn't seem so morose. It's very strange to see such a small operation after my work for the Institute.
Soon I will approach the captain again. He goes out nearly every morning, I imagine for coffee. I'll intercept him then and convince him that I'd be a useful addition to the team.
~III~
I was fitted for a suit today. It was more than I should have spent given my current financial situation, but this is my last hope. The captain has been resistant to hiring me and seemingly unimpressed by my credentials. Perhaps his mistrust of the Institute is colouring his opinion of me.
Well, he's always so well-dressed, maybe he'll appreciate me in a suit more than a tight pair of denims. Lisa has always claimed I look quite dashing in a good suit. Here's hoping she's right.
The next time I see the captain I will get hired. All I need is a good lure because talking and pleading is doing me no favours. Tonight I'm going out with a rift disturbance detector to see if I can find something, anything to bring to the captain.

Date: 2009-11-24 06:00 pm (UTC)As always you get Ianto spot on, and the suit fitting just made me think of your other pre-siries fic. So cute.

Date: 2009-11-25 07:47 pm (UTC)I believe it was the one where Ianto was basically stalking Jack to hire him. He gives Jack a thermos of coffee and Jack tells him to get a suit if he was serious. Flirting ensued, and I was a happy camper. <3

Date: 2009-11-26 01:06 pm (UTC)I was sort of referencing back to that fic, but I didn't want it to be too heavy-handed. Heh! I'm glad someone got it.
